An individual in this position provides comprehensive analysis and technical expertise on hardware, software, and processes necessary to ensure system continuity and recoverability.  This individual also provides elevated expertise on support of peripherals within the Secretary of State's office, hardware and software products, specifications and configurations, advanced problem resolution, coordination, testing, and installation of PC hardware, software, and peripherals. This individual is responsible for providing customer support, ensuring system availability.


The general responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following job functions.

Systems Support

  • Support, deploy, and assist in maintenance SOS software systems

Desktop Operating System and Software Deployment

  • Plan, test, and deploy operating systems and software packages using Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM)

Active Directory User Account Maintenance

  • Create and maintain accounts and group membership for SOS users.

Documentation Support

  • Modify and create new system documentation related to various system components such as peripheral devices, hardware, software, and deployments

Hardware Support

  • Install, configure, and maintain desktop related hardware platforms

Software / Application Support

  • Install, configure, and maintain desktop related software applications

Customer Support

  • Provide support to business unit end users including serve as the liaison between vendors, the customer, and ITSD


Work Examples:

An individual in this position will be able to perform the following types of work tasks.  These examples are a representation of expected work, but are not limited to just the following.

  • Provide computer customer support to SOS employees.
  • Identify and resolve complex problem sources.
  • Deploy and assist in maintaining SOS software systems.
  • Monitor customer support requests analyzing, prioritizing, and routing requests for maintenance.
  • Provide elevated assistance and support to Tier 1 and Tier 2 support technicians.
  • Manage, deploy, and maintain desktop operating systems and software packages.
  • Prepare evaluations of software and hardware, and recommend improvements or upgrades.
  • Analyze system logs and identifying potential issues with computer systems.
  • Introduce and integrate new technologies into existing environments.
  • Perform routine audits of systems and software.


Education and Experience:

Degree in Computer Science or closely related field from an accredited college, university, or technical training institute.  Three or more year's professional experience with Computer Information Technology Systems



  • Thorough knowledge of computer hardware and software capabilities.
  • Thorough knowledge of computer operating systems.
  • Prior knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server operating systems.
  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory.
  • Prior experience with Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

  • Ability to climb stairs, stepstools and ladders
