Description:
This is a professional library position with responsibility for coordinating public education and programs for adult patrons, providing reference and information services to Wolfner patrons, subject cataloging and collection maintenance, and completing Inter-Library Loan (ILL). The Adult Services Librarian has a pivotal role in learning the newest assistive technologies and is an advocate in their use, responsible for the cataloging function of the Keystone Library Automation System (KLAS) administration. The Adult Services Librarian serves on the Outreach committee.
Job Functions and General Responsibilities:
Public Education/Programs
- Facilitate monthly Book Clubs by scheduling, advertising, setting up questions, facilitating, and evaluating the offerings' effectiveness by surveying the participants annually.
- Collect statistics from outreach events and use the results to help evaluate the appropriateness and usefulness of outreach efforts.
- Develop promotional items and advertising as assigned.
- Write articles for publications as assigned.
- Edit and coordinate production and distribution of quarterly Wolfner News and Facebook.
- Work with Director of Public Services and Recording Studio Manager of Wolfner and IT department on Web site maintenance.
- Assist in maintenance of Wolfner Facebook page.
Reference
- Provide reference and information referral services for library users and provide responses in the format required by the consumer.
- Provide information about disabilities and related subjects to library users and the general public.
- Serve as a state resource for assistive technology and web page accessibility.
Subject Cataloging and Reference Collection Development
- Perform subject cataloging of materials added to the library's collection.
- Download catalog records from the National Library Service (NLS).
- Responsible for maintenance of series codes.
Inter-Library Loan
- Process requests from patrons and institutions using KLAS.
- Record statistics in shared file.
Assistive Technologies
- Learn and share information about assistive technologies that patrons would benefit from using.
- Maintain assistive technology used by staff to assist patrons, loaned to patrons or used in outreach.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Basic cataloging knowledge.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to deliver presentations to groups of various sizes.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, patrons, colleagues in other libraries, related agencies and organizations, and consumer groups.
- Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment.
- Knowledge of assistive technology, online services, library automation, online and print reference sources.
- Ability to function effectively as a leader of, or participant in, work teams.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and other appropriate computer applications.
- Ability to travel as needed for outreach.
- Ability to work independently.
Qualifications:
Master of Library Science degree from an American Library Association accredited library school or equivalent and two years of professional library experience is highly preferred.
