The Missouri State Archives is looking for interns interested in the following types of projects:

Visual Materials Project

Department of Conservation:  Items need re-housing and a basic Excel index created.

Bill Nunn Photograph Collection:  Re-house, organize by topic, and create a finding aid.

Adjutant General Processing Project

Processing documents, removing staples, foldering and creating a box/folder list and scope and content note.

Database, CD Migration, checking for online duplicate marriage records

Judicial database clean-up:  This project works with data clean up in our judicial database correcting typos, misspelled words and incorrect grammar. Data may be added as well, such as titles or missing names.

Training in how to operate MF Digital's Ripstation:  The project will employ this equipment to migrate the data on approximately 1000 CDs to new CDs to upgrade the storage hardware, which will maintain the data. The Ripstation dataripper does this through a process of selecting, preparing, extracting, and transforming the data from one CD to another to ensure that it is the same.

Instruction in how to work with CONTENTdm:  This digital collection management system provides tools to build and upload digital collections to the Archives website and to manage the content after creation.

Reference area

The intern working in Reference will experience all areas of reference service in an archival setting: assisting in-house researchers, answering distance research requests, pulling and refiling records, basic collections maintenance and collections access projects (i.e. updating finding aids, indexing or database cleanup) as needed. This individual may also assist with outreach programs such as tours or assisting student researchers

Specific projects include collections maintenance (vertical file and county history shelves inventories), collection access projects (researching administrative histories for finding aids) and some indexing and data clean up from other indexing projects


Must be enrolled in a higher institution.  All Archives interns should have an interest in history. Reference interns should have an interest in history and/or genealogy, which will be help them serve the genealogy researcher. The interns should be proficient in using MS Office software and in conducting internet research; have good written and oral communication skills; strong organizational skills; show attention to detail and have the ability to comprehend and follow directions along with a willingness to ask questions. Interns must be able to lift a 40 lb. box of records and climb a ladder to retrieve and replace document storage boxes.
